About aluminium vertical picket slat sliding gates
A picket sliding gate is the lightest gate in our range for a given opening, simply because a spaced picket panel contains far less material than a slat or louvre one. On a sliding gate that is a genuine advantage: less weight on the guides, less inertia to start and stop, and a smaller motor if the gate is automated.
It suits a traditional frontage that happens to have a modern site problem — a driveway starting at the boundary, or an entry with a car always parked close behind. You keep the open picket look without needing swing room.
Run-back is still the deciding factor. You need clear space beside the opening roughly as wide as the opening. On an open frontage this is often easier to achieve than on a screened one, because a picket gate parked beside the driveway is barely noticeable.
Because the panel is open, a picket sliding gate does not hide what it is parked in front of. If screening the run-back area matters, a louvre or slat gate is the better choice.

Is a picket sliding gate lighter than a slat one?
For the same opening, yes — a spaced picket panel uses noticeably less material than a slat or louvre panel. That means less load on the guides and, where automation is fitted, generally a smaller motor.
What run-back space do I need?
Roughly the width of the opening, clear of obstructions for the whole travel. Measure it before enquiring, as it decides whether a sliding gate is possible at your property.
