The detail
About aluminium vertical picket slat single gates
A picket gate does the opposite job to a slat or louvre gate. It marks the boundary, contains a yard and closes an entry, but it deliberately does not screen — you can see through it, and light and air move straight past. On a cottage, a period home or any frontage with a garden worth looking at, that openness is the entire point.
Building it in aluminium rather than timber keeps the proportions and loses the maintenance. There is nothing to swell in wet weather, nothing to sand back and repaint, and no pickets to work loose off a rail. The powder-coated finish is the finish.
Colours can be split. Frame, posts and pickets are all separately specifiable, which is how the two-tone combinations in our fencing photography — cream pickets against green posts, white against black, cream against red — are achieved. A gate can match its fence exactly or deliberately contrast with it.
One thing worth stating plainly: a picket gate is not a pool gate. Pool barriers in Australia are subject to specific legal requirements covering gap sizes, heights, climbable zones and self-closing, self-latching hardware. If your gate is anywhere near a pool, say so in your enquiry so it can be dealt with properly rather than assumed.

Can a picket gate be used as a pool gate?
Not without specific attention to the pool barrier requirements that apply in your state, which cover gap sizes, heights, climbable zones and self-closing, self-latching hardware. We are not going to describe a standard picket gate as pool compliant. Tell us in your enquiry if the gate is near a pool and we will address it directly.
Can the pickets and posts be different colours?
Yes. Frame, posts and pickets can each be specified separately — that is how the two-tone combinations in our photos are done. Note the colours you want for each element in your enquiry, or ask us to suggest a combination.
Will an aluminium picket gate look like timber?
It keeps the traditional picket proportions, and a woodgrain-look powder coat is available if you want the timber appearance. Up close it reads as painted metal rather than timber, which is exactly what most people are after — the look without the repainting.
