Detail

About aluminium louvre fencing

Louvre fencing exists for the situation where you are overlooked and want it to stop, but a solid fence would make the space unpleasant. The angled blades break the sightline while leaving a clear air path, so a courtyard stays cool and a small yard does not turn into a box.

It is also the sensible engineering answer on exposed boundaries. A solid fence takes the full wind load into its posts; a louvre panel of the same height and appearance passes air straight through.

Blade angle determines which direction the screening works in and is set before manufacture, so it is worth describing exactly what you are screening and from where.

Strengths

Why people choose louvre fencing

  • Blocks the direct sightline from the street while staying open to airflow
  • Looks substantially more solid than its actual open area
  • Lower wind load than a fully sheeted panel of the same size
  • A strong architectural look on contemporary frontages

Trade-offs

What to weigh up

  • Blade angle sets which direction the privacy works in, so it needs to be nominated up front
  • More material per square metre than a widely spaced slat panel

Questions

Frequently asked questions

Is louvre fencing private?
On the sightline the blades are angled against, close to a solid fence. From a sharply oblique angle, or from well above the blade line, you will see through. If you need screening from every direction — including from an upstairs window — describe that specifically and we will set the blade angle against it or tell you it is not the right product.
Can louvre fencing be used around a pool?
Pool barriers are subject to specific legal requirements in each state covering gap sizes, heights, climbable zones and gate hardware, and we will not describe a fence as pool compliant on a web page. If your fence is near a pool, say so in your enquiry so it is dealt with properly.
