About custom vertical picket fencing
Custom picket work is where the details that make a period frontage look right get specified: a shaped or arched top rail rather than a flat one, spear-top pickets, a particular picket spacing to match what was there before, or heights that change as the run steps up towards the entry.
The colour combinations are part of it too. Because frame, posts and pickets are separately specifiable, a custom run lets you pick out the posts in a heritage colour against a lighter picket, or match an existing painted timber fence you are replacing in stages.
Sloping and stepped frontages are handled through the set-out. Vertical pickets step down a grade cleanly, and on a custom run the step increments can be planned against the actual fall rather than left to divide however they land. The cream-and-red run stepping down a grassed slope in our gallery is that approach.
If the run includes a gate, quote them together. Aligning picket spacing and rail heights through the gate opening only works if the whole frontage is set out as one.

Can you match an existing picket fence?
Usually. Send straight-on photos of the existing fence from a few metres back plus a close-up of a picket and rail, and note the height. We will match the spacing, proportion and colour as closely as the aluminium profiles allow and tell you honestly where an exact match is not possible.
Can I have a shaped or arched top?
Yes — shaped top rails and spear-top pickets are both available. Describe or sketch what you are after in your enquiry, or send a photo of an example, and we will quote it.
How are stepped runs set out on a slope?
The fall is divided into even steps so the panels drop in consistent increments rather than arbitrary ones, which is what makes a stepped fence look deliberate. We work the increments from your actual levels, so photos along the run from both ends are important.
