The detail
About aluminium vertical picket slat double gates
The white picket pair in our gallery is exactly this product: two leaves across a driveway with matching picket fencing running either side, so the picket spacing and the top line carry uninterrupted across the whole frontage. That continuity is what makes a picket entry look designed rather than assembled.
Picket double gates suit a driveway where the house and garden are meant to be seen. They close the property without hiding it, and on a wide frontage the repeated vertical rhythm gives the entry a formality that a solid gate would turn into a wall.
Sloping ground is handled well. Because the pickets are vertical, each leaf can be raked along its bottom rail to follow the fall while every picket stays plumb — the same reason picket fencing steps down a slope so tidily in our fencing photography.
As with any pair, one leaf is normally held by a drop bolt and the other latches to it. Nominate the everyday working leaf so the hardware goes on the right side.
Suits
- Driveway entries on open, garden-facing frontages
- Period and traditional homes
- Frontages where matching picket fencing runs either side
- Containing pets while keeping an open outlook
Before you order
- Both leaves still swing, so each side needs its arc kept clear
- Ground fall across the opening affects how low the leaves can be built
- Leaves do not have to be equal — an uneven split can suit an off-centre driveway

Questions
Aluminium Vertical Picket Slat Double Gates — questions we get asked
Can I get matching picket fencing with the gates?
Yes, and quoting them together is the only way to guarantee the picket spacing and top line run continuously through the gates and fence. Include the fence lengths and heights alongside the gate opening in your enquiry.
Will picket gates follow a sloping driveway?
Yes. Each leaf can be raked along the bottom rail to follow the fall while the pickets stay plumb. Send a photo taken square-on to the opening and note roughly how much higher one side sits than the other.
Do picket gates give any privacy?
No, and they are not meant to. Pickets are spaced to keep the frontage open. If you want a gate that screens, look at louvre or closely spaced horizontal slat gates instead — we would rather point you to the right product than sell you a picket gate you are disappointed by.
