About custom vertical slat fencing
Custom vertical slat fencing is what you specify when the run needs to be drawn rather than repeated — a continuously raked boundary, a frontage where the height changes along its length, or a run broken up by piers, planters and level changes.
Raking is the technique vertical slats are built for. Where a horizontal fence has to step down a slope in discrete increments, a vertical fence can follow the grade continuously: the top and bottom rails rake, the slats stay plumb, and the fence reads as one clean line parallel to the ground. On a long, evenly sloping boundary the result is significantly better than a stepped alternative.
It is also the right choice where the fence has to resolve into other elements — meeting a rendered wall at one end, turning a corner at an angle that is not square, or aligning its slat spacing with a gate so the rhythm carries through the opening.
Photographs make far more difference than measurements at the quoting stage for custom runs. Shots along the boundary from both directions, plus anything unusual, will get you a realistic quote rather than an assumption.

Custom Vertical Slat Fencing — questions we get asked
What does a raked fence mean?
The top and bottom rails follow the slope of the ground while the slats stay vertical, so the fence runs parallel to the grade as one continuous line rather than stepping down in blocks. It is the main reason to choose vertical slats on a sloping boundary.
Can the fence height change along the run?
Yes. Heights can change deliberately — taller where you need screening, lower where you want an outlook — as long as the transitions are planned. Describe what you want where, and include photos of the run.
Will you match my gate's slat spacing?
Yes, provided both are quoted together so the whole run can be set out as one. If the gate already exists, send clear photos of it and we will match as closely as the profiles allow.
