Established western suburbs with a strong rebuild market and wide, formal frontages.

Local context
Cumberland and Fairfield share a distinctive front fencing culture. Substantial front fences and formal driveway gates are the norm rather than the exception here, and frontages are often treated as a significant part of how the house presents — full-width fencing, matched pedestrian and vehicle gates, and rendered or brick piers at intervals.
That means gates and fencing are usually specified together and need to be set out as one. Where masonry piers are involved, the bay sizes between them are rarely equal, so made-to-measure panels rather than a repeating system is often the right answer.
Rebuild activity is high, and as with any new build the practical advice is to resolve the gate type before the driveway is poured. Automation, sliding gate run-back and post positions are all much easier and cheaper to accommodate at that stage.
Recommended
Based on the housing, terrain and exposure described above — not a fixed rule, and every project gets specified on its own merits.

Louvre
A single hinged leaf with angled louvre blades. Near-solid privacy from the street without the weight and wind load of a solid gate.

Vertical Slat
The flat slat profile turned on end, in a single hinged leaf. Adds height to a frontage and handles ground fall better than a horizontal panel.
