Charcoal louvre double gates. The blades are set on an angle so the gate blocks the direct sightline while still letting air through.

The photo shows the louvre blade profile and finish on a double gate. We do not yet have project photography of a completed louvre single gate.

The detail

About aluminium louvre slat single gates

A louvre gate is what you choose when you want privacy but not a wall. The blades sit on a fixed angle rather than flat, so from footpath height the gate blocks the direct line of sight, while air still moves straight through the panel. Standing square-on it looks solid; step to one side and it opens up.

In a single leaf this is most useful on a pedestrian gate that faces the street or a neighbour — a front entry, a courtyard, the gate beside a bin store. You get the screening of a solid gate without a solid gate's weight hanging off two hinges, and without the sail area that makes a solid leaf slam in a gust.

Blade angle sets which direction the privacy works in, and it is decided before manufacture. Angled one way the gate screens from outside looking in while you can see down and out from inside; angled the other way it does the opposite. Tell us what you are trying to screen and from where, and we will orient the blades to suit rather than guessing.

Because louvre panels use more material per square metre than a spaced slat panel, they are heavier for the same opening. On a single leaf that means hinge and post selection matters more, which we size against your dimensions at quoting.

Suits

  • Front and courtyard pedestrian entries
  • Screening a gate that faces the street or a neighbour
  • Bin, pump and service enclosures
  • Entries where airflow matters as much as privacy

Before you order

  • The gate needs a clear arc to swing into — measure that space, not just the opening
  • Hinge side is set at fabrication, so nominate which side you want it hung
  • Wider single leaves need heavier hinges and posts

Questions

Aluminium Louvre Slat Single Gates — questions we get asked

Can you see through a louvre gate?
Not on the direct sightline the blades are angled against — that is the point of the profile. From an oblique angle, or from well above or below the blade angle, you will see through. If total screening from every angle is the requirement, a closely spaced slat or solid panel is the more honest answer and we will tell you so.
Which way should the blades face?
It depends on what you are screening and from where. Angled one way the gate blocks the view in from outside while leaving an outward view from inside; reversed, it does the opposite. Describe the situation in your enquiry — which side people look from, and what you want hidden — and we will set the angle accordingly.
Are louvre gates noisy in wind?
The blades are fixed, not moving, so there is nothing to rattle in the way an operable louvre or a loose slat would. A louvre panel also passes more air than a solid one, so it catches less wind overall.
